Why is it that the many tasks I was once able to accomplish are now so difficult? Why do I feel so alone? What can I do with myself now that I am retired? These are some potential questions that many older adults ask themselves in the process of aging and the changing dynamics of their social and physical world. For many people, aging may be an enjoyable event, while for others there are many difficulties and challenges. For those individuals who are experiencing adjustment problems to the growing effects of aging, we will attempt to examine the profile of these older adults, the difficulties facing them in relation to themselves, social policies, and apply them to role-theory. These topics will be tied to the issue of senior suicide, the need for intervention strategies, and recommendations will be provided related to gaps and services. In regards to the generalist practice, these topics will be explored.
It is imperitive to consider all aspects of suicide among older adults. While it is an issue which is generally forgotten, it is one with extensive boundaries, and is proving to be a large epidemic within the older population. Please feel free to explore this website, with the hope that you will become more sensitive to this very delicate subject.
